RECA Film Program
Re-tuning Cinema in Africa is dedicated to teaching and nurturing the future of Africa’s cinema through dedicated film education programs designed for IGCSE/IB/GCE based schools and the visually and hearing impaired through the RECA Film Program.
The RECA Film Program incorporates the Cambridge guidelines of curriculum design and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program guide for film to train aspiring students to develop practical skills and knowledge in the history of film and the art of film production.
This is packaged as as a co-curricular program in a club format: RECA Cinema Club and compliments an ongoing media program in both its theoretical and technical aspects. The goal of the program is to create a new generation of filmmakers who can speak the global language of film and understand its power to foster our past and advance our future. The program is structured to maintain high academic standards, offering both theoretical and practical classes to the students in a fun and engaging way by a team of professional filmmakers who are dedicated and experienced trainers. RECA Film Program equally aims at providing similar standards of learning to persons with visual and hearing impairment for free, allocating 20% of the cost paid by each student per term directly into the RECA Film Program for the Deaf and Blind.
Historically, the film industry hasn't created spaces for those with visual and auditory disabilities to tell their stories in their own way. RECA believes this is a great disservice, not only to them, but to the world that is denied an audience to these stories. Through partnerships with institutions for the visually and hearing impaired, RECA aims to freely offer this knowledge and skills to students across Africa. Our six-month program will run under the curriculum developed by RECA and whose content and impact will be continuously recorded and reviewed. |
